Guernseymen to the aid! by cheryldecarteret on Flickr.
My Gt. Uncle Arthur Cope helping out at Isle of Sheppey floods in 1953. He is second from right with glasses on, helping stacking up sandbags to defend the town from more flooding. He had flown out from Guernsey with other Guernsey men to help with this disaster, in which 300 lives were lost.
